Overview

Registered in 2000 by Paul Ruh, *Hosta* 'Allegan Fog' is a small-sized cultivar derived from a hybrid pod parent. It is distinguished by its green leaves with white margins, a coloration pattern that is stable and consistent. The plant reaches approximately 18.5 inches (47.0 cm) in diameter and 13 inches (33.0 cm) in height, with an upright growth habit and moderate growth rate.

In the Garden

*Hosta* 'Allegan Fog' is suitable for shaded or partially shaded borders, rock gardens, or as a specimen in small garden spaces. Its leaves are 4.75 inches (12.1 cm) long and 3 inches (7.6 cm) wide, with a greenish-white center and a 1-inch (2.5 cm) wide, green-streaked, slightly rippled margin. The leaf surface is dull on top and slightly shiny underneath, with a tapered base and six vein pairs. The compact size and upright habit make it appropriate for container cultivation or as a foreground plant in mixed hosta displays. Companion plants include other small hostas, ferns, or shade-tolerant perennials such as *Heuchera* or *Tiarella*.

Care Notes

Like most hostas, 'Allegan Fog' performs best in moist, well-drained soil with consistent watering during dry periods. It is susceptible to slug and deer damage, and standard pest management practices should be applied. Hardiness zones are typical for the genus, and the plant benefits from a light application of balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges.
