Overview

Registered in 2011, 'Academy Fickle Fellow' is a medium-sized hosta cultivar of unknown pollen parentage, with *Hosta* 'Allegan Fog' as the pod parent. It is visually distinctive for its blue-green leaves with creamy white, heavily rippled margins that exhibit green "grass clipping" streaking, making it the largest cultivar to date with this particular variegation pattern.

In the Garden

'Academy Fickle Fellow' forms an upright, moderate-growing clump reaching 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height and 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for blue-leaved hostas, and is suitable for borders, woodland gardens, or as a specimen plant in typical hosta-growing zones. Its broad, cupped leaves with a glaucous bloom beneath add textural contrast when paired with finer-textured perennials such as ferns or heucheras.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many variegated hostas, it may be susceptible to slug and deer damage in garden settings.
