Overview
Registered in 2008 from unknown parentage, *Hosta* 'Academy Faux Sedge' is a miniature cultivar distinguished by its narrow, lance-shaped leaves that visually mimic a sedge (*Carex* spp.). The variegated foliage features medium green, slightly rippled margins with a dull upper surface and a slightly shiny underside, borne on compact plants reaching 6 inches (15.2 cm) in height and 17 inches (43.2 cm) in diameter.
In the Garden
This vigorous miniature performs best in partial to full shade, where its grass-like form provides textural contrast among broader-leaved perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*. Its compact size and fast growth rate make it well-suited for troughs, containers, or the front of a shaded border. The extended bloom period, though lacking synchronous flowering, produces scapes 10 to 29 inches (25.4 to 73.7 cm) tall with medium green stems.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it may be browsed by deer and is susceptible to slug damage in damp conditions; typical hosta-growing zones apply.
