Overview

A sport of *Hosta* 'Dark Star' registered in 2015, 'Academy Dark Space' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its broadly ovate, medium blue-green leaves with slightly rippled margins and a lightly wavy texture. The foliage measures 7.5 inches (19.1 cm) long and 4.5 inches (11.4 cm) wide, with nine pairs of veins, a slightly shiny upper surface, and a dull underside.

In the Garden

'Academy Dark Space' reaches a mature spread of 40 inches (101.6 cm) in diameter and a height of 16 inches (40.6 cm), with an upright growth habit and moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its blue-green, wavy leaves provide textural contrast when planted near finer-textured perennials such as ferns or heucheras. The medium green scapes, 26 to 30 inches (66.0 to 76.2 cm) tall, bear lavender flowers in midsummer.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges.
