Overview

Registered in 2009, 'Academy Cockcrow' is a sport of *Hosta* 'Twilight' that produces a medium-sized mound of blue-green leaves with wide, white margins. The foliage is broadly ovate with cordate bases, moderately cupped and corrugated, and the leaf surface is dull above with a glaucous bloom beneath.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a compact mound 8 inches (20.3 cm) tall and 21 inches (53.3 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the white margins remain distinct without scorching. The blue-green leaf centers and wide white edges provide strong contrast, making it suitable for the front of a shaded border or as a specimen in a woodland garden.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Academy Cockcrow' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
