Overview

Registered in 2005, 'Academy Chetwood' is a medium-sized, upright hosta of unknown pollen parentage, derived from a first-generation seedling of *Hosta* 'Ginko Craig'. It is visually distinguished by its medium green, broadly ovate leaves with flat, variegated margins, dull upper surfaces, and slightly shiny undersides, combined with purple petioles and striped flowers that emerge just above the foliage.

In the Garden

'Academy Chetwood' reaches a mature diameter of 35 inches (88.9 cm) and a height of 16 inches (40.6 cm), with scapes extending 18 to 20 inches (45.7 to 50.8 cm). Its moderate growth rate and upright habit suit partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones. The plant pairs well with ferns, astilbes, or other shade-tolerant perennials that contrast with its muted leaf texture.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as hostas are susceptible to both pests.
