Overview

Registered in 2015, 'Academy Beech Leaf Stack' is a medium-sized hosta of unknown pollen parentage, with *Hosta* 'Granary Gold' as the pod parent. Its most distinctive feature is the congested, broadly ovate foliage with yellow, slightly rippled margins that create a stacked, layered effect across the mound.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a moderate-growing, mound-like clump reaching 40 inches (101.6 cm) in diameter and 14 inches (35.6 cm) in height. The leaves are 7 inches (17.8 cm) long and 5.5 inches (14.0 cm) wide, with 9 to 10 vein pairs, a lightly corrugated surface, and a dull underside. The green leaf centers are framed by yellow, rippled margins, and the scapes rise 20 to 27 inches (50.8 to 68.6 cm) above the foliage in light green. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, typical of most hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its medium size suits border fronts or woodland garden placements.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as both pests may damage the foliage.
