Overview
Registered in 2009 by D. Beilstein and M. Zilis, *Hosta* 'Abraham Lincoln' is a large cultivar derived from *H.* 'Super Bowl' crossed with an unnamed seedling. It is visually distinctive for its heavily corrugated, ovate blue-green leaves with a pronounced glaucous bloom on both surfaces and moderately wavy margins.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter and 16 inches (40.6 cm) in height, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, where its glaucous foliage color is most pronounced. The substantial leaves and upright scapes make it suitable as a specimen or in mixed shade borders alongside ferns, astilbes, and other woodland perennials.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods to maintain soil moisture, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Like most large-leaved hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
