Overview

Registered in 2012 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Gold Standard', this medium-sized cultivar is distinguished by its blue-green leaves with narrow, golden yellow margins. The foliage maintains its contrasting coloration throughout the growing season, a trait that sets it apart from many gold-margined hostas.

In the Garden

'Hosta 'Abracadabra' forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height and 50 inches (127 cm) in diameter, with a fast growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the blue-green leaf centers remain most intense. The 8-inch-long, ovate leaves with cordate bases and lightly wavy margins carry 9 to 11 vein pairs; the upper surface is dull, while the underside bears a glaucous bloom. Scapes rise 24 to 36 inches (61 to 91.4 cm) above the foliage. This cultivar pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade perennials that complement its cool leaf tones.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during establishment and throughout dry periods; apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable in gardens where these pests are prevalent.
