Overview
Registered in 1987 by Walden West, 'Abiqua Trumpet' is a small blue-green hosta of unknown parentage. Its distinctive foliage features cupped, nearly round leaves with blue-green margins and a subtle trumpet-like habit, reaching 9 inches (22.9 cm) in height and 21 inches (53.3 cm) in diameter.
In the Garden
This compact cultivar performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue-green leaves retain their color. At maturity, it forms a dense, mounded clump suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or as edging along pathways. Its small size also makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation, pairing well with ferns, heucheras, or other small shade perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Abiqua Trumpet' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
