Overview
Registered in 1987 by Walden West as a sport of *Hosta* 'August Moon', 'Abiqua Moonbeam' is a medium-sized hosta distinguished by its blue-green leaves with lime-green margins. The foliage is broadly ovate, measuring 7 inches (17.8 cm) long by 6.5 inches (16.5 cm) wide, with nine pairs of veins, and forms a dense, rounded clump.
In the Garden
This cultivar reaches a mature spread of 32 inches (81.3 cm) and a height of 15 inches (38.1 cm), with scapes rising to 24 inches (61.0 cm). It performs best in partial to full shade, where the blue-green leaf centers and contrasting margins remain most vivid. Suitable companions include ferns, *Heuchera*, and other shade-tolerant perennials; its medium size makes it appropriate for borders, woodland gardens, or as a specimen in shaded beds.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, particularly during dry periods. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage; monitor and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
