Overview
Registered in 2009 by the American Hosta Society through K. Walek, 'Abiqua Jim Dandy' is a miniature variegated hosta of unknown parentage. Its distinguishing features include ovate leaves with green margins and a shiny upper surface, forming a compact, low mound.
In the Garden
This cultivar reaches a mature diameter of 12 inches (30.5 cm) and a height of 3 inches (7.6 cm), making it suitable for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its variegation remains stable, and pairs well with other small perennials such as heucheras or miniature ferns. Its diminutive size also makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
