Overview
A sport of *Hosta* 'Tokudama Flavocircinalis' registered in 1999, 'Abiqua Hallucination' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its unusual color reversal: a blue-green leaf center with golden yellow margins, the opposite of its parent's gold-centered, blue-green-margined foliage. The leaves are cordate, 8 inches (20.3 cm) long and 6 inches (15.2 cm) wide, with 12 vein pairs, a glaucous bloom on both surfaces, and slightly rippled margins.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a dense, slow-growing mound reaching 16 inches (40.6 cm) in height and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the blue-green centers and gold margins hold their color most reliably; excessive sun may cause marginal scorch. Its compact habit makes it suitable for the front of shaded borders, rock gardens, or woodland settings, paired with ferns, heucheras, or other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during establishment, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor and manage as needed.
