Overview

Registered in 1987 by Walden West, this small hosta cultivar forms an upright, rounded clump reaching 16 inches (40.6 cm) in height and 32 inches (81.3 cm) in diameter. Its variegated leaves feature dark green margins with a glossy upper surface, measuring 6 inches (15.2 cm) long and 4.75 inches (12.1 cm) wide with ten vein pairs.

In the Garden

This small hosta performs best in partial to full shade, where its glossy, dark-margined foliage maintains good color. Mature plants spread to just over 2.5 feet across, making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. It pairs well with smaller ferns, heucheras, and other compact shade perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug damage and deer browsing, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
